Summer seems to have (more or less) held up in July, and for us that means lots of events! We have been spending most of our weekends this month at various events such as work socials, a christening party and a Kenyan Festival cooking up our special ginger ninja pork for delighted guests. We also visited one of our favourite markets at Trenchmore Farm enjoying the live music and vibes alongside some other fantastic vendors. This market has been growing over the years which we love to see.
On the farm we have had lots of new ginger ninjalets being born and causing their usual havoc. This time we have a mix of Tamworth and Saddleback pigs. We usually plan our new arrivals to come in some kind of order (also known as batch farrowing), rather than the sows farrowing all at the same time – for obvious reasons – but approximately 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days ago a boar broke out and ‘sowed’ his seeds, now here we are. Its lucky the little ones are so cute!
The goats have also been having some fun, much as we might try to contain them. They are very free range and like to wander around all over the farm. They have been working hard for us this month though by eating most of the ragwort flowers. Since this is poisonous to some animals (when eaten dry), we usually would have to pull this up ourselves, but they have been earning their keep this month!
We have also been really pleased with the success of the online shop so far, with plenty of orders and selling out of our Pork BBQ boxes. As it was so popular we have made some more available so if you missed out the first-time head over to the shop and snap one of the last remaining boxes!
