We’ve been busy curing bacon, gammons and making pigs in blankets ready for the festive season. For those that can’t wait until the big day, there’ll be some gammon and pigs in blanket in stock towards the end of the month to whet your appetites.

On the farm, things have been ticking along steadily. We’ve had a few litters of ginger ninjalets born recently in our igloo-looking huts, which are insulated making them nice and cosy for the little ones and the mums.

We’ve been moving the pigs around to different paddocks so they can do what they do best with their snouts. One of the paddocks we’ve recently moved pigs into hasn’t had pigs on it since November 2023, when it was boggy as hell! Last year, after Halloween, I was given a few truck loads of pumpkins to feed to our ninjas. Almost a year later, we’ve got pumpkins growing in the paddock! The young gilts we moved into this paddock thoroughly enjoyed them.

The sheep had been roaming the farm freely after breaking a fence for nearly 3 months – they even popped to our next-door neighbour’s paddock to say hi to his ram Jack, who didn’t mind getting attention from six ewe lambs. They’ve now been contained in the field by the house waiting to go on an autumn holiday 3 miles down the road, where they’ll be introduced to James & Alison’s rams to be tupped. Fingers crossed for some lambs next spring!

The goats have been doing the thing keep our hedges in check and clearing any unwanted bushes accordingly. They’ve been adventurous as usual – they popped to our neighbours Elio & Kelly’s garden to say while we were away for the weekend; they went through an old fence ending up on the road and making the local Facebook pages. There’s never a dull day at Tynefield Farm.
