March Newsletter

It’s been a busy and exciting month here at Tynefield Farm, both personally and in the running of the farm. Our young son Noah has been coming on leaps and bounds since he’s recently been weaned off of the oxygen, which he has needed since his birth in September. We have also heard the patter of other tiny feet with the birth of two new litters of piglets (aka ginger ninjalets) who made their arrival just a few days ago. We have been working on securing our fences as the resident foxes have been taking an interest in the new arrivals.

We were also thrilled this week to have perfected our very own bacon, a welcome addition to our favourite banana pancake recipe (yes it really does go together!). We first enjoyed them on pancake day and have enjoyed them a few times since, now with our own crispy streaky bacon on top! (Recipe at the bottom)

This is great timing, as our new online shop is almost ready for launch, and this will feature our current produce.

And last but by no means least, we received the delivery of our new butchery unit on the farm! We are delighted to be able to not only rear our own animals but also butcher and process them on the farm.

Banana pancake recipe (courtesy of our good friend Gemma)

  • 150g self-raising flour
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • 1 x banana (we use 2)
  • 1 x egg
  • 1tsp vanilla extract
  • 100ml milk

Mix dry ingredients separately. Mix wet ingredients together in a bowl. Mash bananas in a bowl. Combine everything in one bowl, and you’re good to go. Happy pancaking!
