A belated start to the newsletters in 2025 thanks to the busyness of ‘farm-butchery-family’ life! Nevertheless, the regular monthly newsletters will be back from here on in.
The farm has been gloomy as you’d expect – rain, mud, a bit of sun, more rain, more mud. This has been the theme of 2025 so far but we’re hoping the worst is past us now. Luckily for us we had a well-timed honeymoon/family holiday in Jamaica for some much needed sun. Sorry to say though, that we haven’t brought the weather back with us! The sun keeps making odd appearances but not much heat. Days are getting longer, and Spring isn’t far away so the only way is up from here.
An exciting development of 2025 is that we have started selling our produce from the farm every Saturday. Tynefield Farm “Pop Up Shop” started in mid-January and has been going well so far. It’s such an amazing feeling getting to meet locals who sometimes walk from their houses to the farm for their bacon, sausages or Sunday roast pork joint. We’re looking forward to hosting more events on the farm when the weather behaves consistently.
Another new event on the farm since the last newsletter has been the arrival of 5 lambs! Typically, this happened while we were away, a big thanks to Tom for taking care of them all in our absence! Noah’s 6 sheep were taken to our friends’ Alison & James farm in Titchfield to be tupped but they ended up having lambs much earlier before their usual gestation period of 5 months. Back in September, our neighbour’s ram Jack popped round to visit the girls for a few days…and the rest is history. The lambs are growing very well, particularly number 3’s lamb, a single lamb, who’s an absolute chunk!
Other updates from the farm are:
- Eddie the billy goat seems to have done his job as the ladies are looking to be carrying a bit of weight – if he has, baby goats should be with us April.
- We’ve finally got two paddocks that are fully fenced & pig proof (we say that cautiously…).
- The farrowing paddocks have had a nice rest from the pigs and the seeds we reseeded are germinating.
- We’re thinking of doing a bluebell walk & BBQ on the farm once all the bluebells are out.
