March Newsletter

It’s been eventful both personally as well as professionally on the farm this month! From celebrating pancake day (once a week at least in this house!), Flav’s birthday and Mother’s Day, there have been lots of family get-togethers.

Our exciting partnership with Natty’s Jerk was confirmed with their introduction of our jumbo jerk sausage to their menu. People are really enjoying them and Flav’s been working hard to keep up demand, which we love to see! If you haven’t tried it yet you can head to their restaurants in Portsmouth, Chichester, Southampton (Ageas Bowl) or the recently re-launched Bournemouth spot. You will not be disappointed!

We have welcomed some new animals to the Tynefield family too – our friend’s Old English Goat herd along with some very cute kids. They are one of only a few herds in the country and we are proud to be their new owners. Beth, one of the does, has twin girls but not enough milk for both; this means we have to bottle feed one so that there’s enough for the other one. She’s stubborn as hell to feed despite her small size. Luckily, we’ve had plenty of bottle-feeding practise in last 18 months – although the kids seem a bit more reluctant to take the bottle than Mr Noah!

We have also been planning our first ever public farm event, which will be next Saturday 19th April. We will be having a BBQ with our own jumbo hotdogs and pork burgers. We are also excited to have The Hidden Tap from Botley Brewery coming along to provide the bar, with some music and an Easter Egg Hunt in our ancient woodland. It should be a fantastic day. Now we just need the sun to keep on shining as it has been!

In other news, the lambs are growing nicely as are the bluebells in the woods- coming out just in time for next weekend!

Other updates on the farm include:

  • We’ve had 2 litters of 8 ginger ninjalets born recently.
  • We’ve got electric collars for the goats which will allow the goats to browse & graze through our woodlands
  • The does Eddie has been with are definitely pregnant and should start kidding from 17th April (fingers crossed)
  • We welcomed a group of 1st Whiteley Cubs for a farm walk last week
  • Noah’s sheep did a good job of clearing up our garden
  • We now have a smoker so keep an eye out for smoked bacon
